Problems with BasicX Development Station

Started by Joel Moore December 10, 2003
I'm trying to use the development station for the first time. I'm
TRYING to use a BX-24, the 2.10 IDE, Windows XP, and a Keyspan USB PDA
Adapter set to COM4.

When I plug in the development station and open COM4 in the IDE's
monitor, I get a Welcome to BasicX message, and then Hello World BX-24
repeated over and over. If I try the ATN diagnostic and hook up a
multimeter, I get what I would expect. If I try to open a download
port, I get a Download Port Error saying "Unable to open COM4".

If I look in Keyspan's debug messages, I don't see the download port
trying to open. I've tried adjusting the FIFO settings from their
default of 16, everywhere from 0 to 60, and still can't open the
download port. Any ideas?

Thanks

This is odd. If you can see data from the BX-24, and if the ATN
line is working OK, then the serial port must be working.

The main difference between the monitor and download function is
that downloading is fixed at 115200 baud. Does the USB adapter
support that baud rate?

Good call, it only goes to 57600 baud.

We had the same problem with our Dell Inspiron lap top. We found that
a Belkin F5U103 USB-to-serial adapter works.

Thanks, I just ordered a Keyspan highspeed adapter, that looks like it
should work.
