urgent connection help(please read the following)

Hi,

I am trying to watch some indications on my LCD so I did the
following:

Connect Vss to Cathode
Connect Vdd to Anode
Connect Vo to Vss through a resistor

Connect Vss to BasicX pin4
Connect Vdd to BasicX pin21

The problem is that even though I change resistors, can't set up the
proper contrast.

So first of all are the above connections correct?

The best idea is to connect Vo to the wiper of a 10 K pot. The other
ends of the pot are connected to Vss and Vdd. The pot normally ends up
near the Vss end of the pot. Your wiring apart from a missing wire to Vdd.

I would be careful about powering the LCD from the BX-24 regulator and
never power the backlit that way.
