3rd NetMedia LCD backlight failure

Started by wurlitzer28 June 14, 2005
In both my development board and a couple of my projects, I have
lost the ability, on 3 devices, to control the LCD backlight. I had
sent one of the units back to NetMedia and received a replacement,
which worked for about 30 hours then failed. (No backlight)

On the development board I am using pin 24 per the NetMedia supplied
PDF docs to source the LED supply voltage.

They seem to work fine for a few days then no backlight. All other
functions work well just a rather dark display. The failure is not
related to any program change as these were operating devices that
seemed to fail at power up.

Has anyone 1) experienced a high failure rate of these devices and
2) has anyone played with the LCD board itself to try and force the
backlight on?

I don't need the backlight to have variable intensity just on.

Thanks group!
Craig

What is the voltage you are supplying to the LCD" I find it will not
light the backlight and the contrast will not work if the voltage is
below 6 volts. I choose 8VDC for mine and use the LCD's regulator.
