Has anyone encountered a commercial something like a keypad with say
about 40 keys..... I would like A-Z + 0-9 and a couple of functions
keys if such a beast exists.

Al Williams sells a unit that converts a regular PC keyboard to RS-232
for microcontroller input. I believe you can use the same with a mouse
