2 x 16 LCD

Started by senghoetoh March 19, 2010
Hi,

I new in this product.

Can anyone tell me with a BX-24 development kit, is it possible to use a 2x16 LCD which is not from netmedia?

I notice that for netmedia 2x16 LCD, it has a JP2 Pin RX for serial input which the 2x16 LCD I'm currently using does not have it.
Will the 2x16 LCD I'm currently using able to receive and display text message from the BX-24? If able to can you pls provide me with the solution.

Thanks,
SH

Hi,
There are two type of LCD communication. One is serially and the other is parallel. The serial require only three wires and the parallel require 8 bits plus a strobe data. That will require 8 lines plus the strobe for 9 data line from the BX 24. You still can use 4 line plus the strobe taking 5 lines from the BX24 but it require 2 strobe to send the 8 bits for one character. If it is serial you can use any serial LCD. Must of them used the same format to display any character in the LCD display. Most of them are parallel and then have a serial to parallel converter.
Here are two a link for a serial LCD:
