installing a new Disk on chip 2000 on pc104

Started by vprasad007 August 3, 2005
I am having problems installing a new M-systems disk on chip 200 (64Mb) o
the PC104). My PC104 is to run linux and i basically need to load an imag
onto the new disk on chip. I have a hard-drive connected to the pc104(usin
the old PPM-TX processor board) since the image is loaded on the harddrive
So when i try to get the pc104 to boot of the hardrive, it simply refuse
to do so. is turning out to be a pain, because when i remove the DoC, th
pc104 boots of the harddrive. So the DoC is somehow preventing the pc10
to boot of the harddrive. anyone know why?

Was the original DOC 32MB or smaller? Some bios refuse to boot bigger drives.

Your bios is probably hard coded to boot DOC first. You have to find another board (for example, a Geode GX1 board) that boot off the hard disk first. You can load the boot image on another board and plug it in your PC104.

Original DoC was 64Mb as well.

Yes I think the BIOS is somehow not seeing the HD at all. funny thing is
the pc104 can boot of a floppy and cdrom even in the prescence of the Do
but the hd simply refuses to. when i take the DoC off however, the H
boots up normally. I guess i am going to try now makign a bootable cd wit
the image file and then use the m-systems DOS utils to copy that image t
the DoC.
