Hi, I am studying in computer engineering and working on my graduation project which is about embedded systems and internet. Anyway, I want to have more skill and knowledge on embedded system subject. Here is the problem. We don't get detailed information in electrics and electronics (just the basic). So I want to learn more(like electronics, PCB design, DSP ...). Could you give me some books' names and advice me some subjects to improve myself? I am also open for any suggestion. Thanks all Tolga Utku Onbay

you can also refer to http://www.ganssle.com/articles Jack Ganssle is a veteran in embedded domain, read it great and insight. Tolga Onbay wrote:> Thanks, I'm starting now.

Mr Onbay: For a handbook, I'd recommend The Art of Electronics by Hostetter (if I remember correctly - my copy is at work and I'm at home now). I'd also like to recommend Real Time Programming - Neglected Topics by Foster, Embedded Design for the PIC18F452 Microcontroller by Peatman(some colleges use this hardback book as a textbook for teaching "embedded systems") & The Art of Designing Embedded Systems by Jack Ganssle. I'd recommend putchasing Microchip's ICD2 and one of Microchip's ICD2 compatible development systems. The Peatman book wants you to build your own board, but the PICDEM2+ development board is almost identical to what you'd be building and if you don't have a classroom full of other people doing the same thing, purchasing the PICDEM2+ will keep frustration down to a minimum. Personally I've found out that the PIC18F452 can be removed from the PICDEM2+ board and replaced with a PIC18F4431. Some changes naturally should be expected in the software development, but nothing need be done to the hardware. I also recommend downloading the EAGLE schematic capture and layout editor and consider purchasing the full version as funds become available. Of course these thoughts are worth what you paid for 'em. My 2 cents, 2Penny Tolga Onbay wrote:> Thanks, I'm starting now. >

The Art of Electronics is by Paul Horowitz and Winfield Hill. I second your suggestion. It is certainly a useful book. -- Graham
