Has anyone successfully used this product (AVR-USB-JTAG from Olimex)? I posted a query here a week or two ago, no replies - so I ordered one from Spark Fun Electronics. It arrived with the wrong USB cable (they shipped A to B, it requires A to A) and SFE never responded to my email asking for the problem to be corrected (note to self: buy elsewhere next time). So I cannibalized two other USB cables and got it connected. I installed the latest driver from FTDI, and it mounted the device as COM5. I can't find any method in registry or control panel to change that, by the way. AVR Studio won't connect. I select JTAGICE and COM5, and it just pauses for a little while then returns to the select-port dialog. It is possible my target isn't working properly yet - but shouldn't AVR Studio connect to the ICE even if there is no target connected? It's not establishing any communication whatsoever.

I'll try to find out tomorrow if it works, what was the problem and possible solution. BTW were you living in Brisbane a fair while ago, I got a feeling I remember you from BBS'ing past... Tom

I was very active in Fidonet for a while.

We had to follow the procedure from Olimex (http://www.olimex.com/dev/avr-jtag-upgrade.html). According to my friend he did it for USB dongles as well. Then use COM1 and COM2 for upgrade with AVR Studio.> > I ran ZWSBBS (3:634/396) for a few years when I lived in Australia - > but I was in Melbourne. I was very active in Fidonet for a while.Old age kicks in - my memory still works but not quite well:) Tom
