GOOD debugger which works with all the compilers and LPC (ARM7 ,ARM9 AND ARM11)

Started by raju March 11, 2010
Hi,

I am getting difficulty to check the output of each statement excution in my application with out debugger.any idea which debugger is the best choice to purchase which works with all the compilers and all LPC ARM7,ARM9 and ARM11 microcontrollers?

An Engineer's Guide to the LPC2100 Series

What do you need ARM11 support for?? You will not find a debugger that works
with the ARM11 and all compilers. Also any debugger that works with ARM11 is
$$$$$$. We looked into some for the iMX31, most were stand alone units with
no or very little direct compiler support.

i am mainly looking for ARM7 and ARM9 (ARM 11 if possible) related
debuggers?

Nope. J-Link works with ARM11, I myself use IAR with a Phytec i.MX35 and
it just works fine.

And thats not $$$$$$, only $$$ :-)

Yes, i got information that most of them are using J-link debugger. Will it
support for ARM7 and Cortex,ARM11 WITH ALL compilers?

Why don't you just ask Segger ?!

I'd say if you can afford to buy ALL compilers available for ARM, the price of an extra HW debugger or two should be peanuts when the real (rather than theoretical) need arises. The J-Link probably represents the most well-rounded option in terms of IDE/HW-support ... but if you want to work with every possible ARM platform known to man, it's going to cost a lot more money than a $300 debugger.

Any body tried the j-link debugger with(choices for compilers) GNU arm GCC
,Keil IDE(with all compilers which keil supports) and Cross works,Open OCD
only?

I have just received an EKK-LM3S9B96 Stellaris evaluation kit; inside
there is an usb-jtag adapter based on a FTDI chip that has a jtag plus a
rs232-jtag interface. I think it would work with every common ide
because TI/Luminary sells the same kit for Keil, GCC/CodeSourcery and
IAR ide/compilers, it could be a cheaper alternative also compared with
Olimex USB-OCD also if you buy a Stellaris evaluation kit.
I will test with ARM ides and then I will post the results.
