Is it possible the use the JTAG interface signals pins as GPIO.
I do not use the JTAG.
I recall a while back that the is a way to disable the TRACE/JTAG functions in
the chip

Hi:
In the LPC2478 you cannot use the JTAG pins as GPIOs, as they are dedicated pins.
However, the TRACE pins are shared and can be used as GPIO. See PINSEL5 and PINSEL10 to disable the TRACE functionality.
