MSP430 timer confusion

Started by Tom Harry July 21, 2010
Hi Group,

One general question. MSP430 family has only one 16-bit timer mentioned in datasheet (SLAS491E). But, in the MSP430x2xx family user's guide there is description of timerA (1 and 2) and timerB (1 and 2). Also, I looked through the MSP430 Microcontroller basics text book. It has mentioned that timerB is provided on larger devices in all MSP430 families. I'm kind of lost, any suggestions is appreciated. Thank you.

Beginning Microcontrollers with the MSP430

Read the data sheet for any chip you're interested in. It'll tell you
how many timers that particular chip has.

Take a look at:
http://focus.ti.com/paramsearch/docs/parametricsearch.tsp?sectionId&tabId00&familyId42&family=mcu

There are 252 devices in the MSP430 family listed there.
SLAS491E is the data-sheet of only 6 of them. (MSP430F20xx)
MSP430x2xx Family User's Guide is applicable to 48 of them. (MSP430F2xx and MSPG2xx).

Hi Brock,

I'm interested in MSP4302013 chip. There is no specific datasheet for MSP4302013 chip. Instead, TI has common datasheet called "SLAS491E". I was could not find the datasheet specific to MSP4302013 datasheet. Can you provide more information would me much more helpful. Thank you for your response. I appreciate your time.

Tom Harry.

You needed to search with msp430f2013, pesky 'f'. First google hit:

You will need to use both the family datasheet, and the device
datasheet, for a full description of using the chip.

Best, Dan.

Tom,

You are right there is 1 datasheet for all processors that fall under
the '2xxx' series but just every every chip has a data sheet that gives
specific info related to each chip. Check out msp430.com

Hello Tom,

You may find useful information and examples about the F2013 device from:

http://www.engr.colostate.edu/ece-sr-design/AY07/microcontrollers/

This is a nice report based on the specific device you want to use.

Hope this helps,
Salvador
