PIC Audio project

Started by Sunil Jha July 29, 2003
Hi!
Is there any project or tutorial with schematic and code on the web to generate or play audio using PIC? I need to store some audio data in EEPROM and wants to play using PIC. Is this possible for small midi files. I would basically like to imitate ring tone playing as in mobile using PIC.  Any help..

Thanks

Hi,
If you just want to play some audio, I would suggest you to check the Information Storage Devices web www.isd.com . They have chips that record and play audio, which are very easy to use. The difference between the chips is in the length of the audio, and the way you choose which part of the sound you want to listen.

I've used the ISD chips (ISD4004-08M) for 8 minutes of speech storage in a device to teach Braille (see http://www.brailletutor.com) . A VERY CLEVER technique for short sounds was created by Roman Black. See http://www.romanblack.com/ for his 1 and 1.5 bit sound generators along with encoding software to generate the data to go in memory.

Dear Friends,
Thanks for suggesting help on PIC audio projects. Actually I have
not planned to store the audio in binary format. I am planning to
store and decode RTTTL (Ring tone transfer text language) symbols and
then play the tune accordingly. For this I need to generate sound
corresponding to each note. Please suggest some help or project where
PIC is used to generate musical notes of various octaves to produce
music.

Thanks,
Sunil

Intesting! I'll have to look into RTTL a bit more. I'd like to put distinctive ringtones in my Kyocera 2135 where the ring is the intials of the caller in Morse code.
