I'm trying to use a P&E Micro Multilink Rev.B on Windows XP with
software using P&E's unit_12z.dll. I didn't have any problems with it on NT, but it doesn't work at all on XP. I've tried different parallel port modes and settings with no success, but maybe it's the DLL? If you have any tips or advice on getting things to work on XP or with the DLL, I'd appreciate it. My product NoICE uses unit_12z to talk to the P&E Multilink on both parallel and USB. I have had no trouble, and I am running XP with Service Pack 1. What are the symptoms of "doesn't work"? Does your software give any error messages? Is this the same PC where it used to work under NT? If not, have you tried any of the P&E software? In order to work, the DLL needs to use several drivers: VICHW11.SYS, PEDRV.SYS (and PEUSBV1.DLL and PEUSBV1.SYS for the USB pod). These are SUPPOSED to work without being pre-installed (the dll loads and unloads them), but I believe that will only work if you have administrator privileges on your PC. Otherwise, you may need to have your administrator run the .reg files that P&E ships with the dll (VICHW11.REG and PEDRV.REG) to install the drivers. So far "doesn't work" means I don't see the bit toggling
coming out of the BDM pod on the XP machine. I haven't yet checked what's coming out of the parallel port. I don't have the PEDRV.SYS driver, maybe it's not necessary with NT, but is with XP?? And I am using a different machine, so I guess it's possible that I have a non-compliant parallel port. If you have an early version of the DLL, it may be that PEDRV was introduced later - or it may be your problem. Is the old machine still around so you can see if it has PEDRV.SYS? Sounds like you need to check with P&E for details and possibly a copy of PEDRV.SYS Best regards, John Hartman NoICE Debugging Tools http://www.noicedebugger.com |
