USB connection Failing for olimex SAM7EX256 board

Started by skillgames2004 June 2, 2008
Hi All,

I recently bought Olimex SAM7EX256 board. When I connect it to the USB
port, it is not getting recognized by the WinXP. If I start SAM-BA
v2.6 and try to connect to \usb\ARM0, it says 'Failed to open Connection'.

I tried Erasing Flash by ERASE pin as per this tutorial
http://www.sparkfun.com/datasheets/DevTools/SAM7/Your%20Atmel%20Board%20May%20Not%20Be%20Dead.pdf
and also TST pin setting. What could be wrong? I tried to use serial
port connection through USB to serial adapter with board powered by
USB. This also is giving the same message 'Failed to open Connection'.

Any clues will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It doesn't work when powered from USB, you need to use an external power supply.

1. Switch the board's power supply jumper from "USB" to "EXT".
2. Apply power to the board
3. Connect the "erase" jumper and leave it connected for a second or two.
4. Disconnect the "erase" jumper
5. Insert the USB cable
6. Press RESET.

This sequence always does it for me.

Hi,

Thanks for replying.I tried changing to external power supply, but
there is no change. SAM-BA still gives the same message 'Failed to
open connection'.
Is there anyway to debug using serial port or otherwise?

I got it working. I think the problem was with JTAGSel jumper. Once I removed that jumper, Windows recognised the board as Atmel and I am able to connect to it through USB from SAM-BA.
