Off Topic - PIC Programming HELP!!! PIC16C63A CHIP with ICSP & Programmer from JAYCAR

Started by Steven Chang-Lin Yu June 2, 2004
I have recently purchased the portable PIC programmer from Jaycar, it works
fine with the 16F84, however something wrong with the ICSP support!!!
I am currently using the 16C63A, it program ok first time using the ICSP
connection, however it doesn't not allow me to reprogram the chip 2nd time,
I don't understand why as the programmer's software did say it support
16C63A!!!
If anyone no what wrong with it, please let me know!!!

I believe a partnumber containing 'C' is a one time programmable (OTP)
chip.
Partnumbers with 'F' have Flash, and can be reprogrammed.

I'm not familiar with that programer. I use the EPIC Plus programmer from
MicroEngineering Labs for my PIC's.

I am unclear about which devices you're using. Are they the windowed
ultraviolet erasable PIC's or are they the one-time programmable (without
the window) devices? The 16C series are either one or the other and are
not flash programmable.

Just a long shot, but seeing as that the 16C63 is not a FLASH
reprogrammable part, that would make it a ONE TIME programmable (OTP)
part, i.e. you can only program it once. Only the FLASH series PICs (eg
16Fxxx) are reprogrammable.

Regards
Dave :)

The PIC's with a window are UV erasable and then reprogrammable. I have
been told that the one-time programmable PIC dies are identical to the
EPROM PIC's but without the window. Windows on IC's mus be expensive!
