external reset circuit

Started by Unknown November 30, 2006
 Hi All
I use atmega16 microcontroller, STK500 development board and codevision
compiler.
Does anyone know the steps for setting up the external reset circuit
for atmega16?
I tried to follow the reset circuit in the STK500 user manual (p3-20)
http://atmel.com/dyn/resources/prod_doc ... oc1925.pdf

I connected my 5V VTG pin from STK500 to one end of resistor. I connect
one end of the capacitor to the ground. I have the common node connect
to the reset pin on the STK500 (pin3 of PORTE).

After everything is connected, I unmount the RESET jumper on my STK500.

After I click on "download chip", I get the error message "error
entering programming mode".

I get the same error message when I try to program my fuse bit.

Can someone please direct me how to go about solving this problem?

Thanks

I had similar with an 8051 based board. A simple and straightforward solution was to use a reset generator on a chip where the MAX700 and its derivates come to mind. cheers, Matthias -- Matthias Arndt <marndt@asmsoftware.de> <matthias.arndt@tu-clausthal.de> PGP-Key: http://www.asmsoftware.de/marndt.pgp ICQ: 40358321
