Best OpenOCD GCC JTAG Tool? Signalizer?

Started by tmasyl August 3, 2007
Greetings All:

I am thinking of upgrading my legacy parallel port wiggler clone to a
USB FTDI 2232 tool. I wonder if anyone here has any recommendations?

Does anyone here have experience with the Signalizer, multifunction tool?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Parallel port JTAG are notoriously flaky. Also, there are very few USB to
parallel
port converters that actually work for something like this, most only work
for
printers, they cannot do the IO port access required. It is a much better
idea to
move to an FT2232 based JTAG.

Operational areas
Typical devices are:

* Programming devices (AVR, JTAG)
* Data logger, data acquisition
* slow controls, like for garden, model railway
* Synchronous bus connections, like IC, SPI
* Laboratory automation, simple robots
