News from Nuernberg about LPC2148

Started by Juergen Messerer March 5, 2009
Hi guys

I just came back from Nuernberg and I have some real good news about
LPC2148.

I spoke to one of the NXP guys and he told me that they will release in
Q2/Q3 09 a
pin compatible version of the LPC17xx for the LPC2148.

They can also be clocked around 100MHz and they will add some more RAM.

I hope they will release this one very soon.

Best regards

Does anybody knows if at NXP are working on pin to pin compatible Cortex-M3 version of LPC2148?
Or these are only rumors...

Hi,

It's not a rumor.

NXP is planning to have pin-to-pin compatible LPC2000 series with Cortex-M3, and even peripheral compatible (means the Timer/UART/Ethernet/USB etc is compatible between ARM7TMDI and ARM-Cortex version). It's on the LPC17xx / LPC13xx portfolio roadmap (which I don't have). You may ask your region's sales manager (or distributor) for the details.

Hope that helps

Interesting reading. It seems the new Cortex M0 chips will only see the light of day in Q2 2010 and in production Q3. :( That's a long time to wait, though it looks like a promising chip for wireless sensor nodes, etc. A 2148 pin compatible M3 chip is great news, though.

That is good news. I'm sure there still will be some porting issues as
even though pin for pin, pin definitions, pin names, etc. will probably
not be the same.
