ULINK2 Problem under Windows 8

Started by Bonzadog January 21, 2013
Hello,

My Ulink2 worked under Win XP + Win 7 but I am having some problems with Win 8.
When I connect the device to the USB port - Win 8 recognised that a device is connected but the is no Device Name ie. ULINK2 displayed and so making finding a driver on my CD impossible.
Has anyone one else come across this problem?
Any Ideas most welcome

BD.

Did you try to run win8 in 'advance rebooting' mode? win8 not allow to install any not signed driver, but in this mode you probably will able to install ulink, I had similar issue with avr dragon - this help

If the problem is related to unsigned driver package, one way is to
buy a digital certificate to sign the driver package.

The other method is to use test singing but add the test
certificate to the Trusted certificate stores.

Ref: https://github.com/pbatard/libwdi/wiki/FAQ

It is possible to use libwdi to generate a driver installer which
take care of the auto-generation of the certificates and auto-saving
of the certificates to the Trusted certificate store. However, then
you should use a digital certificate to sign the driver installer
(just like Zadig which install WinUSB, libusb-win32 and libusbK
driver packages).

No...Offering a Windows 7 installion CD does not solve the Win 8 problem.
A bit of a time waster there.

However Mr.Xiaofan does have a very plausuble solution which I will
investigate.

Many thanks

ULINK2 is a vendor-specific HID device. No device driver installation is required.

ULINK2 User's Guide: Installing Drivers
http://www.keil.com/support/man/docs/ulink2/ulink2_su_driver.htm
"ULINK2 uses standard Windows USB drivers. It is configured as a Human Interface Device (HID) and is, therefore, directly supported by Windows operating systems. No additional or ULINK2-specific drivers are required."

Try firmware update of PC mother board and Windows update.

I see. In that case, the device should work out of the box
under Windows 8 and my suggestion of looking into the
digital code signing does not apply.

To OP: check if the ULink 2 is recognized in the Device
Manager. Windows 8 does have much less pop-up than
Windows XP/Vista/7 if the enumeration is successful.

You can also use utilities like USBView to see if the
device is enumerated properly.

USBView:

The problem is that there is no device name ie ULINK2. being shown. The
an USB deice is shown but contains no infomatation.

Thankys,

You should look at under HID Device and then check the details of each
device to see if any of them match the ULINK2.

But using USBView may be faster in this case.
