Board-to-Board Connector Availability for Launchpad

I would like to build a daughter board for my Launchpad. Others call this stacked board a shield, ala Arduino. Where are you folks getting the female 10 position, single row board-to-board receptacle? The only manufacturer I've found that produces a simple vertical, single row .100 pitch pcb mount receptacle is Tyco. The series is branded ".100 inch AmpModu". I found nothing like it at Jameco. There is almost no inventory at Mouser or Digikey for this series, and when they do have a listed useable Tyco p/n, the minimum quantity is a gazillion pieces!

Anyone willing to give up the secret source for small quantities of the .100 inch AmpModu connectors? It would be a shame if the only folks who can build shield boards without kludging the board-to-board connection, are Designers who can check out connectors from their employer's stock room.

ebay. From China. Tons of them. Very cheap. Takes about 10
days to reach me at home on the west coast. Look for break
away types for males. The females you just cut through and
lose a hole. I just bought some male AND female and received
them just a couple of weeks back. For use with LaunchPad,
too.

There were a few more, as well, that I didn't list here. The
one from 43oh looks like it may be laid out for easy jumper
soldering. But less 'open' to anything than joesbytes version
which is a dollar cheaper.

Oh the joys of searching for generic connectors in any catalogue. i have
yet to find any with a meaningful (to me) classification scheme that
makes it easy to search for the unknown.

Actually, the product to which you linked (granzeier.com) is a protoboard designed to help develop new booster packs (shields) for the LaunchPad. I think that it is a great board, but it uses the male pins which are supplied with the LaunchPad (the female headers from the LaunchPad are soldered to the LaunchPad itself), it does not have any pins with it. I am going to drop the price tonight or tomorrow, just noticed that it is too high.

The sister product (http://zenstore.granzeier.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=9) includes the pass-through headers (and yes, I get them from eBay, but I can order in the hundreds/thousands to get better prices.) Unfortunately, I do not have any pass-through headers at the moment, that is why they are marked as "sold out." I will be ordering more pretty soon, if you would like, I can create a new product of just those 10-pin pass-through headers.

Here is the Digi-Key part number of the 10 pin headers. They are the
same ones TI uses as far as I can tell.

BTW, another convenient source of 0.100" pitch sockets is your local
electronics surplus store. I buy the fancier DIP sockets (made with
glass-filled plastic and gold-plated pins/sockets) which have only a narrow
bridge between the two sides and are now quite cheap (who needs DIP sockets
anymore :-) Then just clip the bridge.

The "stackable" female headers, with long (wire-wrap style) pins, are
harder to find, and more expensive.
SAMTEC has lovely connectors in infinite possible combinations, and a
friendly samples policy. The stackable connectors are female single-row
connectors with square pins, and a long pin-length option (SSQ series. I
THINK you want SSQ-110-03-T-S or similar (different gold plating options
are available, for instance.)) Be aware that their standard solder-tail
socket strips (say, the SSW series) have rather wide leads, and WILL NOT
fit into a socket.

Digikey and other carry some SAMTEC socket strips, but they tend not to
have the rarer sizes and options, and they tend to be expensive.

These are NOT the sort of sockets sold by various vendors as "Arduino
stackable headers"; those are much cheaper socket strips with not-quite
square pins. For example, AdaFruit references connectors from 4ucon.com:

10pin connector as well. Minimum order quantity is about 1000 pieces for
some popular sizes, and bigger for less common sizes.)

Note that the newest version of Arduino (xxx-R3) uses a 10pin header as
well as 6 and 8pin connectors (sigh), so these are starting to appear in
the Arduino marketplace. The easiest cheapest solution may be to buy
Arduino connector sets like https://www.adafruit.com/products/85 and "make
do" with a pair of clippers when necessary.
