Hi;
I made a SI-prog programer and PIC programer adapter for PIC programing.
I can program (read & write) many PIC series for exampel 16F84A but I can't
program PIC 12C5xx series. I can just only read it but i can't write it.
I check many 12c508a and after 4 or 5 times IC be damaged.
please , say me what's the problem?
your sincerely : A-Raftari

It might be that the programmer can program a 12C508 but not a 12C508A
-- my understanding is that "A" devices are sometimes different in
their programming specs. A quick look at a website for this
programmer showed that it did list the non-A version but didn't say
anything about the A version. To me, that would suggest that it won't
do your chip. You might ask the manucturer of the product for
clarification regarding this matter.

Hi, A Raftari. We see all your posts.
I have never programmed a 12C508, so I
don't know if it takes anything special
to do so.

In any event, there are so many things that
could have gone wrong -- expecting us to
solve it without more detail is unrealistic.

So, we can't tell you what the problem is.
What program are you using to read and write
the PIC?

And who is the vendor/website for the SI-prog
programmer? There's *lots* of programmer
web-sites, after all.

As I checked Microchip, the 12c508 is an OTP-chip,
which means 'One-Time-Programmable'. Therefore reading
is no problem, but you can write it ONLY ONCE!

It should be a miracle that A. Raftari was able to
write it 4 or 5 times!

Kees.

Parts that have OTP versions also have versions that are windowed UV
erasable (extension of E/JW or something like that). Without them no
one ever get a product to work. ;)

Check Digi-Key, they offer the 12C508a in both JW/Eprom and OTP
packages.

yup,

the idea is you test and troubleshoot with the much more expensive
chip and then order thousands of the much cheaper chip.
