Z-World Recommended USB-to-serial converter

Started by seecwriter March 6, 2012
What is the USB-to-Serial converter Z-World recommends for the Rabbit.I can't find anything on the Digi website (whats new!).

I have one by Tripp-Lite, but I can't get it to work with DC.

I purchased one from Saelig, here is the current version:

http://www.saelig.com/USAC/U047.htm

I think Digi has dropped the USB to serial converter. They now sell a
USB programming cable.

the brand I consistently have success with afa usb serial converters is systembase. I use their Multi-4u and multi-8u which give me 4 and 8 rs232 ports respectively for one usb port. systembase also has a 1 rs232 for 1 usb port that works well too.

The Rabbit programming cable is based on the FTDI devices which is what they
found to be the most reliable for programming with Dynamic C.

The Rabbit part number is
20-151-0178 RS-232-to-USB Converter Cable

When I have ordered this I receive a cable manufactured by SystemBase pn
"Multi-1/USB RS232"
You can see this at

I've used one from Keyspan, model USA-19HS, with no problems. I've seen them listed online for anywhere from $25-$40. The thing I like about the Keyspan unit it that it has a B connector on it and comes with a detachable A-B cable, instead of the cable being part of the adapter.

I can also confirm the Z-World adapter that I got is from Systembase, Model Multi-1/USB. Digikey used to sell them too. I bought a few of them over the years.

Mark

The cable is available from http://microcontrollershop.com/ as the
Multi-1U/232 for $23.
