Re: Prices of COSMIC compiler in USA? Gnu's HC12 compi ler anyone using it?

My salesperson is Maxine Taymore []. I suspect you'll
see something around $1800 for just the compiler. I recently purchased
several seats of HC12 compiler + simulator + BDM debugger for about $2700
each. I have been a pleased Cosmic user for 10+ years. 607-656-2597 -----Original Message-----

Subject: [68HC12] Prices of COSMIC compiler in USA? Gnu's HC12 compiler
anyone using it?
Hi,

I've finished the development of a new range of
radio base stations for my employer, and they
are now selling (primarily in the USA).

The market reaction has been good. The new range,
using a HC12 (our old gear had an HC11), with code
written in C has a lot more "smarts" than our old
gear.

Unfortunately this success, has led our clients to
have even more expectations. Ie "well if it can do
all this, surely you can make it do this and this
and this as well". And in fact it could do most
of what they ask.

My problem is that I need to page. I already do
some simple paging. My start up code is in one
page, code which resides in RAM is stored in two
pages (1 page == 16K ), and the code that
ends up after start-up as 8000-BFFF is another
page, and of course the code from C000-FFFF is
the common page.

In all, I have about 58K of code (after start-up).
My start-up code is on top of this.

I'm currently using Imagecraft's compiler. I
attempted to use the Professional Edition, but
could never get it to compile properly. After
fiddling for the best part of a week with a
few emails back and forth with Richard, I eventually
gave up.

I'm now reviewing my compiler options again. It was
about two years ago when I settled on Imagecraft. I'm
reviewing my options and it may be possible that I
end up just upgrading to Imagecraft's professional
edition.

I checked the various compilers yesterday, and the
glossy for the COSMIC compiler looked good. Anyone
using it care to comment?

When I looked at using the GNU C port two years ago,
the code it produced was pure garbage. Has there
been a more recent port? If so, is anyone prepared
to comment?

When I tried to check out the COSMIC compiler two years
ago, I found that its price was quite expensive. BUT,
that mah have been due to the fact that some local
Australian company had the agency agreement from
COSMIC UK (the UK is only 13000 miles away, 10 hours time
difference, and on the other side of the world by the way!!!).
What I would like to know is what is the US price, so that
I can compare with the local reps to ensure that the price
hasn't had too many "mark-ups" on its way to the
"land of Oz(tralia)".

Thanks in advance for any comments. David leComte

It's great. Produces compact and fast code. Cosmic + iSystem iC3000
is cheaper than Metrowerks.

November 2001 it was not much better. There is a mailing list, ask
there.

You could also ask Cosmic France where it comes from. Or look at
www.Elektronikladen.de.

When did you buy it and when did you hear from Introl last?

Sad to thay: I wouldn't (didn't) buy it for the HC12 in the present
version. I wouldn't buy it if I weren't sure that I get support and
bug fixes.

It is a one man show...I heard from him recently. Truth is, I use it for
68020 stuff as well as 6805, 68hc11, 6303 etc...all in one is nice.

Yes, and AFAIK the compiler is no more his main work.

One of the advantages of CODE is that you pay once for all supported
CPUs.

Another advantage: it's nearly platform independent.

But I see no progress since 1-1/2 years. No HC08 compiler. No more
traffic on the mailing list.

I used Introl tools for a number of MC6809 and MC68332 projects over a
period of about ten years. I was quite pleased with the tools, they worked
well, had a couple of minor bugs, got good support from Introl.

I am currently using ImageCraft tools on MC68HC11 projects, am pleased with
them and have gotten good support on a couple of usage questions.

The assemblers I primarily use are mature and need no maintenance as far as
I can tell. The user interface in their older 3.x version of CODE wasn't to
my liking and there are a couple bugs in the C compiler and IDE. I haven't
played with version 4.x Beta much.

I also use ICC12 with NoIce and StarProg etc...on a ComPOD12. No complaints
there so long as the oscillator speeds match.
