Looking at diagnostic tools that are hand held, Palm Pilots, PDA`S, custom made etc for specific tasks. For example laboratory balances, GPS, some makes of cars etc have RS232 data outputs. It would be great if one could just have a small board for one specific task connected to a portable or semi portable display screen so you can read the data output instead of using a large desktop or pc104 computer, just something simple to do the one task. Is there anything in the line of PICS or other simular advanced microcontrollers that can do these tasks that can be connected to a VGA screen that can read the RS232 output of these devices. Of course any programing that is necessary or Iam best with just making up my own interfaces and programming in C+++, gwbasic and using a pc104. Thanks Russel

Take a look at DataGet - it connects devices such as electronic calipers and laboratory instruments to the Palm. -- --------------------------------------------------------------------- DataGet & PocketLog www.dataget.com Data Collectors www.baxcode.com -------------------------------------------------------------------- "Robert" <robert@iinet.net.au> wrote in message news:42e21863$0$21404$5a62ac22@per-qv1-newsreader-01.iinet.net.au...> Looking at diagnostic tools that are hand held, Palm Pilots, PDA`S, custom > made etc for specific tasks. > > For example laboratory balances, GPS, some makes of cars etc have RS232data> outputs. > > It would be great if one could just have a small board for one specifictask> connected to a portable or semi portable display screen so you can readthe> data output instead of using a large desktop or pc104 computer, just > something simple to do the one task. > > Is there anything in the line of PICS or other simular advanced > microcontrollers that can do these tasks that can be connected to a VGA > screen that can read the RS232 output of these devices. > > Of course any programing that is necessary or Iam best with just making up > my own interfaces and programming in C+++, gwbasic and using a pc104. > > > Thanks Russel > >
