how can I burn bootloader into Flash? Thanks

Started by Lee September 3, 2004
Dear all,

If I did the PCB by myself and put all components onto the board by
myself, how can I burn bootloader into Flash?JTAG hardware is enough?

Thanks,

Please give us some more information about the Flash and the PCB. Are there any homepage with the PCB and/or the design? Cheers Rune Christensen --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. No, the RCA1802 does not have JTAG interface.... .... or perhaps you were using a different processor? Cheers, Alf

Possibly. Have a look at the manual of the controller in question. It may or may not have JTAG enabled at power up. Rene -- Ing.Buero R.Tschaggelar - http://www.ibrtses.com & commercial newsgroups - http://www.talkto.net
Depends on which chip you are using.
The AT91 ARM7s need a JTAG interface
unless you have a combo chip with internal flash.
They get delivered with preprogrammed flash.

The AT91RM9200 has a cool bootrom which will
check if the flash is programmed and if so, boot from the flash
otherwise it will establish an X-Modem communication on the debug UART
or Device Firmware Upgrade via USB.

Both method will only require a standard PC and a standard serial cable.
No JTAG ICE needed.

Yes, but if you hold /CLEAR and /WAIT both low you can use DMA to load memory starting at 0000h with a program without using a bootloader. ;-)

Are you sure it doesn't (didn't)? If you pulse each of the EFn lines low in sequence at the rhythm of a close encounter of the third kind and then wait until the Q lines goes high/low and if you pulse the TPA line high when the TPB is high that will put the RCA1802 in the JTAG download mode. :-D I swear this scheme was published on RCA's web site ;-) Mostafa -- ---------------------------------------- Mostafa Kassem M Dot Kassem At ieee Dot org ---------------------------------------
