I have a Motorola M68HC11EVM evaluation module that I purchased from Motorola in the early 1990s (- quit laughing! It's a good system!). The DOS-based software that came with the EVM has the following sign-on screen: "User interface to the Motorola M68HC11EVM Requires ROM version 2.8 or later MSC Bulletin Board - (512)891-3733 Version 1.1 Copyright 1990 For all your 68HC11 consulting needs: P&E Microcomputer Systems PO Box 2044 Woburn, Ma. 01888 (617) 944-7585" This EVM system had been in regular use until I replaced my PC system (running Windows 95) with a new system (running Windows XP). Now the software is unable to communicate with the EVM. I have been in contact with P & E Micro to see if they have a more recent software package that will communicate (thru Windows XP) with my old but treasured M68HC11EVM without any luck. I have tried many different "hopeful fixes" without any luck. Does anybody out there have an XP GUI that will work with the old Motorola EVM????? Calam |

Dear Clamity, When you say that you have an EVM, do you mean the big board that is a little bit bigger than a standard size sheet of paper? It that is the case, I think all you need to do is connect the serial port of the EVM to any terminal emulation program on your PC such as Hyperterm or Terraterm. The protocol is N-8-1 and 9600 baud. Actually, if you follow the directions real carefully you can get the thing to autobaud between 1200 baud and 9600. However, I forget exactly how to do it. I think that you have to hit the "break" key or something right after the board powers up. Communicating to the EVB's (as opposed to the EVM's) required a "talker" program to be downloaded to the 68HC11. However, the EVM should have a Buffalo monitor ROM and that should communicate just fine with a terminal emulation program. And just for your information, I happen to have an MC6801 EVM (ca. 1981) that I had to use the other day and solve a customer problem. I did have to get the cob webs off the board. The spider was not real happy about finding a new home but the board did still work at a blazing 1 MHz. Hi Calamity As your name implies you should have expected the worst...;-)) I also run the EVM, but I have stuck the the DOS software and a 233MHz machine running Win 98. I have used P&E's windows AEVM11Z , which is an excellent program and runs on newer, faster machines. I think it's about $500.00. You may be able to download it from their website with the help of your Visa or Amex. (I had a copy for a short while, courtesy of P&E, but I lost it following a couple of viruses attacks that took both my computers, so it's back to the DOS software, and of course virus protection). I believe that the old program does not run on machines faster than 300MHz and I would suspect not on an XP machine.
