An Engineer's Guide to the LPC2100 Series

LOL, you're right. I'm located in the EST time zone.

Also LOL. No... you are located in the EDT time zone:) Though I think Europe is still ST and will be DT next month.

Do you have sufficient bypass capacitors on your board to minimize glitches and power fluctuations? I assume you do but I had issues with this on a design I had breadboarded.

Hello all,

I'm still having some issues with Flash Magic. The good news is that I'm
no longer getting the autobaud error. I have confirmed that there is
communication between my PC and the board by manually sending commands
via a hyper terminal and receiving a response. I sent a "?" and I
received a "Synchronized". I sent a "Synchronized" and received an "OK".
I even sent the crystal frequency and received an "OK". Finally I send
an unlock code and received CMD_SUCCESS. The communication seems to be
working fine. I was even able to read the part identification number and
boot code version number.

The error I get with Flash Magic is as follows:

I select a hex file and press the start button. It looks like something
is happening because the lower left corner reads "Erasing block 0...",
but there doesn't seem to be any progress happening. A little while
later a message pops up saying "Operation failed. (Failed to erase block
0)". Could my device be write protected?

Thanks in advance.

What version of FlashMagic are you using? Mine is 5.52.1864

There is a checkbox in step 2 to erase all flash plus code read protection. Under ISP -> Erase Flash, you can try to erase just a single sector. You can also try to Read Security to see what is in effect.

Section 20.7 of the User Manual discusses Code Read Protection (CRP) and yes, it is possible to lock up Sector 0 such that ISP can not function. Nevertheless, the FlashMagic function to erase CRP should solve the problem.

Richard

Hardeep do the FlashMagic commands under ISP work ie. Blank Check, Read Security, Read Device Signature, Display Memory, and especially Erase Flash?

Richard I think we are on the same wavelength today:)

Thank you for your help everyone. I was finally able to program a hex
file this morning using the Flash Magic program. I think the CRP was the
problem. As well, the timing of flicking the reset switch in relation to
hitting the start button in Flash Magic was a little out of sync.

Thanks again!

I don't have visual C to compile lpc2isp. Could anybody post the .exe for windows in the file section or email it to me please?

You just need to release it when you reset to execute your new program. Both of my development boards have a switch that I set to ISP BEFORE I reset the device. Seems to work pretty good.

On Linux, I am using version 1.73 - probably part of a Ubuntu package. I don't recall...

That's great:)

Do not program CRP word to CRP3 as that will render your chip as a brick and is no longer programmable.

Good Luck.
