Problem with USB to serial converter

Started by Tushar Phadtare July 5, 2011
Dear All,

I'm trying to connect LPC2103 (Crystal 12 MHz) board to laptop through USB-to serial converter (PL-2303), flash programming tool is Philips LPC200 Flash Programming Utility V 2.2.3. But Flash Utility is not able to detect LPC2103, saying "Cannot communicate to board".However board works fine with direct serial port of desktop.I tried following,

1)Changing USB port,Laptop, USB to serial converter
2)Changing bit rates from lowest to highest.
3)Changing FIFO Buffer size in control panel for that serial port.
4)Using Flash Magic 3.75.245

However if I use terminal in flash magic and manually send commands, sequence is

Flash magic and other tools do not get on with all USB to Serial converters

I use one that works, it uses Microsoft FTDI driver V 2.8.14.0 under XP

Hi,
With a serial/usb converter, the problem can come from the COM port affected by windows to this converter. The LPC2100 tool from Philips works from Com1(or com0) to Com5. Depending of your system, window can affected for example Com11 to your converter, so it didn't work.
I have already saw this problem with mine.
On the material property of you Com ports in Windows, you can reaffect this port to Com1 or Com2 for example is they are not used in your system. If tomorrow you use another usb port to connect your converter, it could be Com12 for example. So, when you have reconfigured your Com port, be sure to use always the same usb port to connect your converter, or reaffect all your usb port to the same Com port in the material properties of windows.

Sorry for my poor english, but I had the same problem with my lpc2106 board, and I have resolved the problem like this.

If it could be helpfull,

With lpc21isp I have had no problem (so far) with FTDI or prolific
converters.
