i need help regarding flash of Msp .
we have programed almost 1000 msp and all were sent to field and almost 20 boards sundding stop working in field i have proggramed fe boards and they again started working fine .
Than i read the flash of non working boards and its file is atached . the flash of msp was erased .
there was no firmware erasure in code . what are the posibble reasons of flash being erased . the flash thats was erased bec of some reason were working fine . and sudenly the board stop working and culprit was flash .
if anyone has encounter such problem please list the suspectable reasons of flah erase .

thanks alot for the reponse . well my system is kind of wireless comunication system .
The flash was totally erased . It was reported that the borad stoped working when an aeroplane passed over in field ..and one board stop working when was just switched on .

Hi Rania. Unfortunately the group doesn't allow posting of attachments,

What is the end use of your system?
Was the flash totally erased, or only partially?
If partial was the erasure segment sized or random?
Do you have ESD protection on your I/O pins that may be subject to contact?
Is it possible that the filed boards may have been exposed to extremely
high levels of external noise, ie could they have been sat mounted ina
vehicle, for example that somebody was welding onto?

These are some POTENTIAL reasons for flash erasure.

Post a few more details about the application, and hardware design and
it may throw up a few more pointers to people.

You seems to have not enough knowledge on MSP430 or even on the design to be able to do this debugging process.
Binary file wont help in any way. Even the source code may not help in case the problem is in the hardware design.
Also, cleaning a software bug in a complete code is not an easy job and you wouldn't have this done here in the
list.
If you have de source code you can search for trash code left behind by your software development team (person)
that could erase the flash in case the CPU jumps accidentally in an unknown part of the memory because some
noise or software failure.
If it is a software failure then would be triggered in an special condition that happens not in all deployed
systems but in a very similar way in the failed ones. It could, for example, set the PC to the Bootloader area
segment where a mass erase can be performed. It can be an incorrect assembled jump table or a routine that
makes push or pops incorrectly only in very special conditions, making CPU to run over the bootloader area.
A hardware failure that consistently (20 times) produces the same results would, for sure, produce other
results (even if they do not crash the system) in a large number of occasions. If all other deployed devices do
not show strange data or behavior often then a hardware problem becomes a less possible cause.
I would ask the software developer to check the code again (till he finds the error) or even hire someone else,
not connected to this design, to do this check.

I thought about Brownout conditions too, because I also had these
problems with an F123 (without BOR) some time ago. Upgrading with an
F1232 (with BOR) solved my problems completely.

But AFAIK the F169 has already implemented a BOR-circuitry!
