FET for MSP430F5xxx?

Started by Michael Wirth October 11, 2010
Folks,

I'm getting ready to use some MSP430F5438's in a software porting
project (where I need the 16KB of RAM :-) Have the chips in hand as
well as several MSP430 dev tools:
1. MSP430 LaunchPad
2. eZ430-F2013 dev tool
3. eZ430-RF2500 dev tool

Also have most of the makings of a GoodFET 31
(http://goodfet.sourceforge.net/) open-source JTAG adapter (waiting on
the FTDI chip from DigiKey, maybe tomorrow) but the firmware for that
device hasn't been completed for the MSP430F5xxx yet (RSN :-)

Is there any way for me to program and debug the 5xxx series with the
tools at hand (possibly with modifications), or do I need to go ahead
and get a MSP-FET430UIF? Compatibility with CSS 4.x is desirable, but
I can go ahead and work from the command line if necessary.

TIA,

Mike

Beginning Microcontrollers with the MSP430

I have used the launchpad to successfully program this micro. Have a look into the SBW (spy by wire) interface.

Hani,

Thanks. And debugging? Same interface? CLI or CCS GUI?
