Industrial Temp RTL8019AS

Started by tek220 October 23, 2003
Help!
I need to design a TCP/IP based system that can handle the Industrial
temp range (-40-+85 deg. C). The realtek RTL8019AS doesn't have an
industrial temp equivalent. Does anyone know of an industrial temp
Ethernet chip? Let alone it be compatible with the rabbit libraries.
Thanks,
Dave

OK, I found a part from SMSC: LAN91C96I that covers the Industrial
temp range. Now if I adopt this chip and still use the Rabbit 2000,
what's involved in changing the realtek library into an SMSC LAN9000
library? I don't suppose that would be easy.

Dave,

DynamicC includes packet drivers for 3 ethernet chips: Realtek, Asix
and the SMSC LAN91C113 (smsc.lib in the tcpip directory).
Maybe this driver will also work with the 91c96i or it might need
only small changes.

Rudi,
Thanks - That's a big help. I was unaware of the
smsc.lib library. I can't seem to find the LAN91C113
IC on the SMSC's web site. Do you think this is a
TYPO and they really mean LAN91C111??? Also do you
know if there is a reference design for ANY of the SMSC
Chips? Have you used the SMSC chips before?
Thanks a bunch!

Can't help you very much on these questions.

I never used the SMSC chip. I did use the ASIX chip on our X-Graph
board. This chip is sensitive to pcb layout.
I couldn't find a SMSC reference design.
The SMSC.LIB refers to the 91C111/113 AN-96. This application note
can be found on the SMSC website but never refers to the 113
version. I don't think it's a typo. You could contact SMSC or Rabbit
about this.

Hi All,
Just to close this out - I did find out what a LAN91C113 is.
It's a "high volume" version of the LAN91C111. As far as the
silicon goes, its identical. It is also NOT available in
Industrial Temp range whereas the LAN91C111 IS.
