Hi,
Can I add an USB interface to the RCM3000 development board, So I can use it instance the serial port

Can you clarify what you want to to, Do you want the rabbit to talk to
other USB devices, or to you want a USB link between the rabbit and
your PC?

If you want the latter you can

1. Use a USB to serial cable.
2. Use a USB to serial module (Same electronics as above just packaged
differently) This module could be soldered to the development board
and could produce the correct 3.3v signals that the rabbit requires.

Martin, if i want to use Rabbit as a Host USB, what do you suggest?

You will need to think about what sort of host functionality you want.
i.e. what do you want to connect to your rabbit. Flash
disk/keyboard/mouse/printer etc

There are 2 approaches

1. Use a USB hoist chip like the phillips ISP1161 and write code to
drive it. This would be hard work and probably would not be worth the
effort.

2. Use a pre-designed module, which usually has all the USB Host code
written for you, this would be my prefered soulution. Which module use
use depends on what sort of host functionality you want. Try looking
at USBWIZ this has been around for some time
http://www.alfat.co.uk/usbwiz.html or
http://www.ghielectronics.com/details.php?id=5

another optionn is to look at the brandnew Vinculum host controller
chip from FTDI see http://www.vinculum.com/index.html they also do
some very interesting modules http://www.vinculum.com/prd_vdip1.html

Have fun

Hi,
you know that the RCM3000 have Ethernet and serial ports like C and B to send/get data from the RCM3000.
I need to send very high speed data to the RCM VIA USB FROM PC then the RCM3000 sends data via Ethernet to the network.
The serial bort interface not good to handle the BW of data I send :(
this my application i need : SEND/RECEIVE data via usb to RCM AS Ethernet connction
Thx

Hi,

You can use an FTDI Chip to do it, it is very simple to add an FTDI
chip to an RCM.

Yes, I have used the FTDI chips on Rabbit and PIC boards. They work well
and emulate serial ports well.

The FT245 can handle 300kbytes/sec or 1mbyte/sec transfers depending on
driver. More than the Rabbit can handle. It has FIFOs, buffering and a
parallel interface. Would be easy to put on aux I/O bus.
