Error connecting the RCM3000 using serial-to-USB cable

Started by "argy.tzak" June 18, 2007
Hi all,

I am new to this group and to the RabbitCore.
Unfortunately, I have already encountered my first problem.
I am using this RS232-to-USB cable
http://www.extras4u.com/faq/product/CB004/CB004%5B5%5D.htm

I have read the instruction in the manual and the FAQ, but was not
able to establish the connection.

This is what happens: when i open a sample program and try to compile
it, the IDE gets stuck. The only way to fix it is to remove the
RS232-to-USB cable and then of course I get the message
---------------------------
Error
---------------------------
While Sending Cold Loader:

Target communication error.

I am using WinXP Pro SP2 and Dynamic C Version 9.21

Any suggestion?
Try these settings as it works for me:

Enable processor verification - unchecked

User USB to Serial converter - checked.

You have to use the USB-to-Serial adapter sold by Rabbit Semconductor. Ok, you don't
"have to", but most others don't work with rabbit tools. You're better off using theirs.

Yeah, what Steve said.

Rabbit has a thread with folks who have tried this and that USB-serial
adapters. Many kinda sorta work if the job isn't too difficult, but
won't handle something as challenging as this. About half of them work.

Compared to this, Zworld's works very well and is reasonably priced.
Buy it and get on with the rest of your life.

As you said, the problem was with the adapter.

I could buy the one you suggested (or the one from Keyspan which is
quite reliable), or I could get a Desktop PC from Ebay.
I gor lucky and bought a full system (including a 15" tft!) for 50gbp.
Everything works fine now.

Thanks for the help!

The the PC has PCI slots, just get a dual serial PCI card. Will work
fine as it is a real serial port, not one emulated through USB.
