2mm 2x17 headers and sockets.

Started by Scott Henion May 3, 2011
Anyone have a good source for the 34-pin headers and sockets used on
modules like the RCM3000/3100/32xx?

Rabbit semi used to sell the Pinrex ones for just over $1 each. The new
web site does not have them (I remember the sockets were 416-0008, cant
remember the header part #)

Neither Pinrex or Digi will answer my emails on how to order them.
Digikey/Mouser never has more than a few in stock (I need about 50 of
each.) Besides theirs are $4-6 each.

I have had to order 40-pin Samtec ones and cut them down before because
they are not stocked.

Have you asked DigiKey about additional quantities?

I have always had great success in dealing with DK.

I have ordered the parts from them before that exceeded their stock. I
check their site later and they have them in stock and never shipped mine.

Besides, I cant afford their inflated prices. i can get them direct from
suppliers faster and at lower prices. Still looking for a Pindrex
supplier as they were 1/3 the price.

Hi Scott,

Have you consider checking stock with Arrow?

I have used them in the past when I was in the UK as they where considerable
cheaper than Farnell or RS. Wish they were out this way.

I see Mouser has 524 in stock for 1.90 each for quantity = 1

Headers or sockets?

When I checked they had 7 sockets an 5 headers (Samtec IIRC).

I managed to order the Pinrex parts from Taiwan through Xuan Truong,
Digi finally called back and said they no longer sell most of the stuff
in the "Parts Store". They forwarded my email to him.

x...@comtech-electronics.com

$1.75 for headers, $2.20 for sockets and they will match the existing
boards.

Hi Scott

They have the sockets pn 416-0008 at www.mouser.com.

I do not know the part number for the headers. so can't look that up.

The headers are 406-0022, That is what i looked for first at Mouser. It
lists them as a "non-stocked' item. Probably why I did not see the
416-0008. Then just went to the socket category and looked for 2mm
headers and sockets.

Hi Scott,
We have used a Molex part from Mouser for mounting RCM3100's. Mouser #538-79107-7016 is a through-hole socket that has worked well for us. It is pricier than your original part but it is available.

For SMT, we have used Samtec SMM117-02-S-D for RCM336x/7x modules. I believe the cost on these direct from Samtec is a little less than the through-hole part from Mouser.

Never had a need for the 2x17 headers though, but I would think you could get them direct from Samtec too. They are probably more expensive than what you are used to though.
