Running HiWave using wine

Started by "Jim...@googlemail.com [68HC12]" November 11, 2015
Hi Guys,

Does anyone know if you can run HiWave (From code Warrior) using wine in
linux?

If you do you know how, I'm struggling to get it to flash the EEPROM.

Thanks
Jim
I don't think you can. I tried it a few years ago, but no success.
Even if you install mono as well as wine, I thin there are some calls
that it just does not support.

That having been said, I may not have tried as hard as I could, since I
have a copy of NoICE which works fine, so I just switched to using that.

regards,
Nigel

Hi Nigel

Is there anything special I need to do to get NoIce working with wine?

Thanks

I worked up a how-to, but I'm embarrassed to say I seem to have lost
it. I sent it to John Hartmann, but it is not posted on his web site.

It may be in a local POP folder on my laptop at home, I will try to find
some time this afternoon to look.

I remember it had to do with changing some register entries to recognise
the Com port.

I got my start from this piece, regarding another device which I use at
work...

http://www.downtowndougbrown.com/2013/03/getting-x-ctu-in-wine-to-detect-your-serial-ports/

I am not sure if it worked first time when I tried that or if I had to
play with it, but you can try following it if it will get you going
before I can find my email (it was a few years ago)

cheers,
Nigel

Hi Nigel,

If by chance you do find the notes, they would be very useful.

I'll give the link you've supplied a go and see how far I get.

Thanks for all your help so far.

I had a major cleanup of my email last weekend, looking for a couple of
important emails.

Alas, it seems they have been consigned to computer heaven. I thought I
was protected by having all my mail on the ieee IMAP servers, but it
seems that a few whole folders have been deleted!

I hope you can get it going.

cheers,
\Nigel

HI Nigel

I know that you probably won't be able to tell me off the top of your head,
but how do I flash the chip using NoICE, I can't seem to find any tutorials
on using NoICE to write to the chip.

Thanks
Jim

I have never even thought about it. I just open the elf file in NoICE
and it does everything if I have set communications to the BDM pod's
serial port.

If I do not edit the files and re-run NoICE, it knows and asks me if I
want to flash it again or use the version that is already there.

No skills needed!

cheers,
Nigel

Hi,
Does anyone had a success with operating Pixy cam with HC12 using I2C communication?
I had a success only with digital mode which as far as I understand let only one color detection.
Thanks,
Eli
The "Tutorials" link at the top of the NoICE web site will get you to
http://www.noicedebugger.com/tour/index.html
From there, select "Connecting to hardware for the first time". Some of
your settings will differ based on your BDM pod and HC12 variant.

Basically

* pick your pod
* pick your chip
* set your BUS (not crystal) frequency
* Check "Use Flash/EEPROM Burner" to burn
* Check "Use 24-bit Hardware breakpoints" to use the hardware breakpoints

NoICE help is available on the "Help" menu, or on-line.
Information about the various BDM pods, their setup and their quirks is
athttp://www.noicedebugger.com/help/bdm12.htm
