2x2mm 10uA current 3-AXIS mems sensor

Started by Antti December 23, 2008
Hi

i have been holding back this information (because of NDA) but it
seems that digikey doesnt care
about about NDA as the part is already orderable

CMA3000-D01

http://parts.digikey.com/1/parts/1621768-accelerometer-3-axis-spi-i2c-smd-cma3000-d01.html

in th NOV issue there is a picture of this sensor (page 18)

http://groups.google.com/group/antti-brain/files?hl=en

it is the same device as introduced in followin PR
http://www.vti.fi/en/news-events/press-releases/view/1229408564.html

its really weird, i have been waiting VTI to officially announce this
device, so
have hold back all our commentary on it, but as the news is LEAKED now
by
DIGIKEY, so it is now in the wild

we have the device working in one of our prototypes, so i can confirm
those
devices are real, and they do work.

I will write a little bit about them in our DEC issue.

PS ST just announced a new 3AXIS MEMS with same power consumption
(10uA)

I still can not belive it DK has the VTI "CONFIDENTIAL" datasheet online, get it here http://media.digikey.com/pdf/Data%20Sheets/VTI%20Technologies%20PDFs/CMA300= 0-D01.pdf Antti

$15 price range is not cheap. Are you able to get better pricing with volume?

The other downside is the BGA packaging. That will make integration into prototypes more difficult for those of us still building boards by hand soldering. Someone needs to market a small stamped lead frame for packages like this. You would lay the chip on its back and solder the individual leads to the BGA solder balls (or contacts on a QFN package). You would then either snip the lead frame or remove the adhesive backing and solder the leads down to the pads on your PCB. Mark Borgerson

we are going to supply adapter PCBs soon probably before the ICs become available :) the BGA8 is actually not hard to solder to correctly designed land if you read our NOV issue there is a picture of CMA3000 soldered to simple break out board funnily, not only Digikey has LEAKED the NDA only datasheets but also one russian company http://airborn.ru/news/accelerometer_cma3000/ they even have some example C code examples online :) Antti www.trioflex.com

i uploaded a picture of working prototype with cma3000 http://groups.google.com/group/antti-brain/files?hl=3Den this is shot of very first test, the c program overwrites screen without clearing background so the numbers look bad Antti

The new Analog devices ADXL345 is somewhat similar (25uA instead of 10uA and bigger), the low power is achieved only at very low sample rates. I can't find the ST version, do you have a link? thanks

Nice IC.

I like the idea using a Nintendo DS for implementing a SPI test hardware. Is there any simpler method of hacking this console than buying an old cartdrige and overwriting the EEPROM? -- Frank Buss, fb@frank-buss.de http://www.frank-buss.de, http://www.it4-systems.de

dont be lazy http://www.st.com/stonline/products/literature/ds/15101/lis331dlf.pdf Antti PS at electronica ADI/ST/Freescale all promised new 3 axis sensors before/at end of 2008 ST is now out, it seems ADI, need check freescale, they should also have new stuff

tems.de Hi Frannk the SPI interface is done with this board http://www.microdream-1.com/CPLDStarter.html the CPLD is inslot programmable using DS version of Xilinx XSVF player :) hum.. you seem to be well informed? There are 5 DS roms known that have know STACK overflow exploits found that allows the game state eeprom to be written with special code that is executed after being loaded. but those are not old games :) you cant just go and buy any old game it is of no use! For making the slot2 adapters, then well 1.6mm thick PCB is all you need I find the DS the easiest gadget to use, the CPLD board is SO easy to use and reprogram - no need to fight with impact :) and the C library support is superiour, really easy to write hardware related stuff. much more easier than it was in the old days when PCs used to have LPT ports! Antti
