He's using a pirated copy of CrossWorks? Shall I ban him?

Is this list sponsored by Rowley...
Are there any list guide lines for using license software only?
I see absolutely no reason to ban OP for NOT using license copy of ANY
software.

I had my tongue in my cheek when I wrote that.

It could be argued that using the group to help someone use illegal
software is a misuse of the group, and shouldn't be tolerated. It might
even be compounding a felony or something like that. 8-)

That's not a question wether the list is sponsered or not and IMHO this
is also not a question of wether there are guidelines regulateing this
kind of abuse or not. Last not least the guidlines also don't tell you
to wipe your ass after visiting the toilet (SCNR). It's a question of
being honest and not criminal. If I would run this list, I would
consider banning you for your last statement!

Especially in the case of Rowley which offer a really affordable / cheap
PERSONAL license, and with Paul giving sensational support here, I don't
think useing pirated software should be tolerated, nor should it be
tolerated that people like you seem to encurage/defend such abuse nor
should such list users get any kind of support from this comunity.

Many of us here make a living with writeing software. I bet you too also
don't work for free.

Sure, just my 2¢...

If there is nothing to reply, dont waste your 2 cents also....

If OP wants to use licensed or pirated software, that's up to OP and the
company which makes that software.....

It is not list job to check / encourage / discourage, pirated / license /
legal / software.

Surely, no reply is expected, so don't waste your 2 cents also.

I have a hard time making sense of this reply. How does my company have any say in the OP's decision?

So you're a self-appointed list spokesperson now? And policeman too? That's rich. Your logic indicates you turn a blind eye to any crime? That attitude just stinks. Heck, you should be scrubbed for that view, it indicates no social or ethical responsibility at all.

I think not.

He would sing a different tune if people were stealing his products. It's hard enough making a living selling niche product like software for ARM without having freeloaders, worse there are free high quality compilers available so there is no excuse for being a thief or supporters of one.

A happy owner of Rowley's personal license!

Mukund,

Before speaking, I think you should consider the main audience of this mailing list.

I'd have thought that most systems/software developers would at least pay lipservice to intellectual property, after
all that is our business. On one side, I admire your honesty for at least giving your name and declaring this to be your company policy. On the other I find it difficult to believe that anyone in our business should be stupid enough to call himself a thief and furthermore declare which stand to avoid at a fair in a country that very much treasures intellectual property. I doubt any potential Western customers who read your mail would be happy providing you with the information necessary for you to support their products if they saw your attitude to other people's property.

There is no way that a simple user of this forum, such as myself, can possibly determine the license status of another user's toolchain.

It's great to huff and puff about IP rights but this is a public forum populated also by people with no commercial interests; just ordinary people that happen to use the NXP product line.

I suppose those of us who are just simple users could refrain from responding but that is hardly the point of these groups. Somebody asks a question: somebody provides a suggestion. Simple as that...

Not me, It's you acting as policeman, by suggesting to ban people from a
public list who do not use licence copy of your software. Well, your
policing is fully justified on your forum, but not on the public mailing
list.

I am sorry but that's your feeling, and let others take their own decision.
