RCM300 Cable

Started by German Pablo Gentile February 18, 2004
I have a RCM2100 dev kit. It comes with a programming cable 175-0139 Rev
C.

I'm trying to connect with a RCM3000 core and still can't.

The MAX232 chip is a SP232ECN.

What NAX232 chip comes with the new programming cable???

Here in Argentina the distributor (CIKA) don't have cables or kits of
that version.
Anyway, maybe i will have to build one, so i need to know what MAX232
chip comes.

TIA

The 3000 programming cable uses a 3232A chip?

A quick look at the cable pinouts for all RCM products indicates that all debug cables are identical with the exception of power requirements for the 232 converter.  Again a cursory look at the power requirements indicates that for the 2000 series Rabbits the 232 converter is supplied with 5 volts while the 3000 series is supplied with 3.3 volts.  Possibly the 232 converter isn't getting enough power to work.  As another thought, I don't think the 3000 series RCM will like being driven by a 5 volt power supply if you are using one.  The schematics for the development card have a 5 volt regulator for support chips and a 3.3 volt regulator for feeding the processor and those chips that need that voltage level.

Just some thoughts.

My 3.3v cable has a SP3232EBCN.

If I remember right, the 3v compatible cables use red shrink wrap
while the 5v are clear or black.

I can see it will not work...

Thanks a lot.

German.

Off course I already power the RCM300 with 3.3 v. and see the pinout and
schematics, and ask about the maxim chip, so : A lot of words ans
nothing to take...

:)

Best regards.

German.

I was trying to help, if you want info on the Maxim
chip, go to their website that is what those of us who
build systems do. Attitude I don't need.

Live long and prosper

You were quite justified in taking offence.
I really can not understand his "attitude".
You obviously took some considerable time to try and help and then he
criticised you for "a lot of words".
This forum mainly consists of volunteers who go out of their way to help.
That should appreciated.

Thanks,
I don't mind helping but when someone else says it
isn't going to work I have a problem with someone who
has not done due diligence engineering to solve their
problem.

I guess that you Brits ans us Americans want to help
people but they should be thankful for the help.

Cut the shrink wrap off and replace the level shift chip with a
MAX3232. They work 3.0 - 5.5 v. Digikey has them.
