Hi, I am trying to create a full hardware handshaking rs232 port with cts and rts (dsr, dtr) lines... does the rs232 module include these lines as extra lines like the enable function? Also, how do I find out what all the parameters I am allowed to pass to the rs232

I'm in need of a low temperature capable RS232 circuit and the MAX232's that I have are only good to 0C. I've found out that I can use a 2N3904 and two resistors to TX from PIC to PC. It works great and should be good down to -40C. The transistor is operating as an i

Hi, I am fairly new to pics, so you will have to forgive me. I am playing with a 18F458, no particular reason for using this device, it's just I had one available, and for this question I think the scope is general to other devices in the range. I have prototyped a circuit on breadbaord using this PIC and a MAX232 chip so that I can communicate from a PC to the device through RS232. Basically ...

I have an existing PIC based application and need to add RS232 communications to a PC. Due to timing constraints and other factors, I can't add that code to the existing PIC and intend to do the RS232 work with an additional and separate PIC. What I need is a way to occasionally pass information between the two. I've never used an external EEPROM chip and wonder if there's a way to share access...

I need a solution that allows me to communicate with a modem that has max 3.3Volt interface and my PIC must run at 5Volt due to other interfacing. I have been looking at using the MAX3243 to handle the shifting from the PIC at 5V to 3V then from the modem at 3V to 5V. The only reason I do not want to use this chip is I only need 1 TX and 1 RX line and

Hello, I'm planning to use this programmer (http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=6) for my dsPIC. I'm just wondering that if anyone has used this with a USB to RS232 cable and either did not work or worked; since my laptop (computer I use on the field) does not have a serial port, and I don't want to spend a lot on the USB version. I'm using this as a low-cost alt...

This may be a baudrate problem, baudrate accidentally coming within spec while the power is on the downslope. Hyperterminal will usually filter out anything that isn't readable. Try RS232 Hex Com Tool instead its much better, it'll show you ASCII or HEX, and if you're getting garbage it'll show you that too. < http://www.rs232pro.com/ > kg4pid wrote: > I'm using a serial routine on a 12F67
