I have put together a little RS232 booster which uses RJ45 connectors (line powered), around 70 are required, so I am looking for a little box with RJ45 cutouts at each end. Around 50mm by 30mm. I don't mind pulling apart somebody elses product but so far have not found anything appropriate. Just wondered if anybody had any ideas. The case should cost no more that =A32 ($4). Thanks

Can anyone recommend a chip that I can use to capture simple audio (44 Khz, 16-bit one channel for example). This is for a hobby project where I would like to sample audio from a microphone and send it to a PC through either USB or RS232. I'm a complete newbie and I'm not sure where to start. Maybe someone can point me to an existing project or a magazine article that describes such a th...

Hi, I am currently attempting to use the DMA channels in the TMS470 (arm7dtmi core product from TI). I can't seem to get it working quite right. Here is what I'm trying to do. 1. Set up a simple array of chars 'a', 'b' through 'e' 2. Write these chars to the SCI port (RS232) via a memory-peripheral over DMA. 3. So far I've had limited success, 1 character seems to work, but when I ...

Hi, Could anyone lend some light into which protocol or technique is used to actually send I/O from a legacy serial port device onto a TCP/IP network? I see there are many products out there, but none of the product sites describe the actual protocol used on the IP network side. An RFC search also came up with nothing, though I could have missed it as well... I know that on the client s...

I'm interested in experimenting with how to non intrusively sniff signals on a wire. Examples are phone lines, VGA video, NTSC video, RS232, etc. One of the first I'd like to try is NTSC video on a standard RG-59 coax. Is there enough radiation from these to detect anything useful if you can get in close ? Or does the coaxial cable effect attenuate it so much that its not feasible ? As...

Hi NG, I need a good protocol for error free communicating with my msp and a pc. It should be a software protocol (not RS232 with parity) because it should work on other links such as over gsm, too. What about xmodem. Can I use this protocol for communication, too? Can somebody help please? Thanks, Joachim

Hi. When I want to test RS232, I simply cross Tx and Rx pins (2 and 3 in DB9). In RS485, on the other hand, there are four pins used for transmission, ie Tx+, Tx-, Rx+, Rx-. Is it enough to connect Rx+ to Tx+ and Rx- to Tx-, or is there any connection that should also be done? What are the possible reasons for the lack of transmission?

Hi, I am looking for a uC for my application: a CAN to RS232 interface. Most important spec is that it must not miss any messages when arriving at maximum possible rate (1MBps). I need to store a lookup table in flash memory, table ~17K plus my code. The table can be written many times (possibly thousands) over the life of the product. I would prefer an integrated uC so that interface is a...
