I'm just getting into a project which "prefers" the ARM7 for business reasons, not technical ones. I do _not_ have experience writing for the ARM7 beyond some modest playing around, but will muddle through that part when the time comes. I'm looking for an ARM7TDMI core (or upward compatible) that includes a monolithic (unless someone goes through all the trouble of wire-bonding in packagi...

I want to upgrade from 8 bit to 32 bit microcontrollers. Which is the best platform to invest on? (I mean in terms of code portability/devices offer/tool reuse/long term device availability) ARM7 seems to be a good platform... We are trying to decide on whether to use ARM7 or ARM9 core in a ASIC design. One major consideration is system power consumption. From what I am told, the ARM9 consumes twice as much power as the ARM7, but most of this extra power is used by the cache. It is hard to believe that the cache controller consumes this much power, so I have to assume that the cost includes the power used by t...

Hello, Is any one using gcc on this part? I have used gcc with a 7520 Netsilicon ARM7, but I wasn't sure if that means it will work with any ARM7. I assume this should be the same instruction set, but has different mix of peripherals and things are at different addresses. Am I on the right track with that assumption? Any comments regarding problems or successes would be appreciated. ...

Hello, Has anybody already worked with this microcontroller family? Which is your opinion? They seem very interesting because they use an ARM7 core processor and include very useful communications peripherals (ethernet MAC, usb controller, ...) Does anybody know if there are free developing tools: - compiler / linker: i guess that GCC may be useful as this family uses ARM7 cores. - [b...

Hello experts, I am using ARM7 for a project that needs to handle about 1 MB of systemdata and 1MB of logdata stored in a dataflash. I have been used to the database API in Windows CE, and have always found it very useful for smaller systems. Could someone advice on what I could do in my ARM7 project? How do you handle data? Is there any good embedded databases around for this purpose? ...

Hi, We have to tackle a new job that is going to use VOIP. I am wondering whether the ARM7 series from Philips would be up to the job or if it would be better to go the PC-104 route. The plus points on a PC-104 system are: a) Ethernet interface b) OS such as linux available c) Mass storage (Comapct Flash etc) available The plus points for the ARM: a) A lot of fun writing the code....

So... do you have one or two spare ARM7 EVBs or header boards you're not using? I wanted a 32-bit micro for a little weekend project and thought I'd use the two STR91x dongles I have here. Unfortunately the chip in question (STR912FW44X6) is at best casually documented and requires a full day of frustration just to get an LED blinking. So much for getting this project finished over the Lab...

Hi, For a new product we are going to use an ARM7 and are now going to make an important choice : Should we stay with IAR or should we use GCC. We are current leaning a bit towards GCC but we need som extra input here : What version should we use ? 3.x.x is not the newest but I beleive many of its bugs are known. 4.1.0 is the newest and generally considered stable. What are your exp...

In my new arm7 design I was biased toward the atmel AT91 seriesbecause I like the AVR chips so much, but after some research and pointers by nice foks such as rickman and Leon, I decided to look toward other manufacturer's offerings. One thing I discovered is that the flash in the atmel chips (which have it) is slow! Thus using a ball grid type package such as the AT91FR40162 with 2Meg of fla...

Hi group, I am new to ARM7 microcontrollers and would like to hear from experienced people what they recommend. I saw that the Philips ones are pretty popular but ST have a built-in 1.8V regulator. What chip would you recommend? Are there any ARM7 with more than 64KB Ram and 1MB Flash? I am not very keen in soldering - in fact I would prefer a ready made and pretty small board with a chip...

Had a discussion with a _hardware_ guy (as in transistors and OP-amps) about "powerful" micros. He his a PIC guy and claimed that PIC have a very nice instruction set and is a pleasure to work with in assembly. He also mentioned the he would rather use a dsPIC instead of an ARM7 because ARM7 is very hard to program and has a confusing assembly (we never talked application, so I assume he...
