i'm a newbie in Embedded world. I need some clarification about the arm gdb debugging. 1. Is there any options to debug the board through serial port ? how? 2. All search results about the arm debugging are related with some kind of external hardware and JTAG why? 3. I found results about gdb stubs for some non arm architecture. is there any stub for arm without a external hardware or JTAG...

Hello, has anybody hard facts what the requirements for the ration between Jtag/SWD clock and MCU clock is. Main interest is for Cortex-M, but facts for other archs are welcome. Information floating aound in the net tells abound a factor of 6, but some people tell about successfull SWD communication even with a MCU clock much slower than the SWD clock. Thanks -- Uwe Bonnes ...

Hello everybody. I'm having problems trying to start up a new Pentium-based CPU. It has 8 MB of RAM (lowest addresses) and 8 MB of FLASH memory (highest addresses). I can load programs with a PC via JTAG into the FLASH (4 chips of 1Mx16, arranged as 1 Mibi of 64-bit words), and I can control the CPU with a Microtek JTAG-ICE (with no trace memory). I can start the programs, step by step...

Hi All, I have a router that has had a flash ROM problem, to the extent that it gets stuck before it properly initialises (proven by ROM substitution) to a point where I can replace the corrupt contents. The router is MPC850 based and has a JTAG port on the board, can I use this port/BDM mode to read out a good ROM and re-flash the corrupted ROM? If not, can you point me in the direction...

Hi, I am looking for a schematic/pinout diagram for the 20-pin arm cable (CA-ARM20 / CK-ARM20) used by this debugger. Does anyone have it? If I am not mistaken it's a simble DB25 to 20-pin header cable. I can't find a pinout for the DB25 connector that connects to the jtag device. Could anyone do a trace using a multimeter and post a pinout diagram? Please help. Best regards, ...

Hi there! Does anybody has a software which I may use for programming my flash device (AT29c040a) through the MCU's JTAG port? The MCU is LH75411 from Sharp which has a ARM7-TDMI core. I have a wiggler and the macraigor's free OCD programmer in place. Both are working fine for programming the internal RAM of the MCU. For programming the flash device, the OCD programmer is obviously not...

Hello Folks, I am writing what I thought to be a simple application to read and write memory using the ARM JTAG Scan Chain instructions. What I am finding is that I can read and write registers without issue but whan I try to use system speed instructions (as required) to do the memory accesses - all hell breaks loose. My sequences are simple enough IR SCAN_N DR x10 (scan chain 1) ...

Hello everyone, I would like to know if we can use a general purpose (available off-the-shelf at popular stores) USB to JTAG cable to program a Xilinx Spartan 3 FPGA or does it *have to be* a cable (and box) specifically meant for programming a Spartan 3 FPGA (as shown on the Xilinx website)? I am hoping to hear from people who have actually used a general purpose USB to JTAG cable (...

Hi, I need a PCI parallel port card since the new PC is "legacy free". I use parallel port based JTAG debuggers and programmers for micros (AVRs), CPLDs (Xilinx/Altera/Lattice) and FPGAs (Xilinx/Altera). Which PCI parallel cards work or don't work for you? Tried it under Linux? Seems like most PCI parallel cards are based on chipsets from Netmos -- any luck with these? Thanks.

What are the collective's opinions regarding the use of in-circuit emulators for proving safety critical embedded software? I've heard from some people that they can't imagine how it could be done without whereas others have never used an emulator and consider them entirely unnecessary. Has JTAG rendered emulators obscelete?
