Hello, I would be very grateful if somebody helped me with this or gave some pointers to where I could find information. I am currently trying to design a text to speech synthesizer for embedded systems as part of my masters degree. I would be grateful to get some about how much memory is currently supported on embedded devices - on chip and external. Can I have some ranges that say that t...

Hallo I'm using AT90S1200 at 3,3V The application read the content of the flash via the serial programming interface. Then the contents will be compared with an CRC BYTE . Sometimes we found that 3 Bytes of Flash Memory get lost. Address 00, 01, 200 HEX Is there any experience with corrupted F L A S H Memory ? We found no way to generate this behavior ? But it happens 1 per 10...

Hi, I'm trying to write a graphics demo program on an ML-300 board with embedded PowerPC CPU and 128MB of RAM, no graphics acceleration chip. I got the linux kernel running, and have been advised that regular X11 will not run because it takes too much memory and I need to run some other memory-extensive tasks on the background. Does anyone know of a good widget toolkit that can solve...

Hi I'm using the Hi-tech PICC-18 compiler together with a MPLAB ICD 2. The ICD 2 reserves a few bytes of the data memory for itself. The thing is that the linker doesn't understand this and tries to store my own variables at the same adress. My questions is: How do I "prohibit" PICC-18 from using a certain area of my data memory? Regards Erik N=E4slund

Hi everyone, I am confused about how the linker actually goes about generating a memory image. Right now im studying how ld works, i have to use it with an ARM920T. Suppose i have a program with two sections, one of which has a size of 1kb, and is to be placed at location 0x200000, and another which also has a size of 1kb and is to be placed at 0x600000. How does the linke ensure that t...

Hello, I have a reference board that I am trying to bring up an ethernet device. I am wondering if the memory mapped io register layout for ethernet is standard? If so, what is the name of the document(s) I need for this register map? Because my question deals on wether or not mmio for ethernet is standardized, the specific chip shouldn't matter. Thanks for your time. Cheers, Pe...

I've looked at farnell, there are some 450 MPUs and thousands of MCUs, which one should I learn, considering: I'm currently using a standard x86-32 PC for my project, but would like to replace the whole motherboard with just two chips: cpu and memory. The code for x86 is written (by me) in ASM, about 64k in size. This is what I need: 1. 32-bit CPU 2. 128k of internal CODE memory,...

Hi all, I have a few questions on how to go about generate the correct waveforms for reading/writing from/to an external flash memory using an AVR microcontroller. The AVR has enough I/O to allow direct connection between address, data and control lines. I don't have to worry about counters/latches etc. The AVR is using a 12MHz clock. How do you work out how long each cycle will take? ...

Hello, I hope you can help here. I've just started working for a new employer and one of the first projects I have is to develop and interface/reader for Sony's memory cards. CF and SD cards, IDE and SCSI I've done before and the information was pretty much readily available. In this case however, Sony's protocols for communication with their cards at an embedded level is a bit obscure ...

Hi, in the recent days I was reading an article describing how to optimise instruction cache behavior by modifying the placement of functions in memory. The article can be found under: http://www.dspdesignline.com/howto/processors_fpga/202804122 I'm little bit confused about the effectiveness of the memory layout achieved by the described algorithm. Unfortunately, there's no detai...

Hi all, I've been looking into how to interface huge and cheap consumer flash memory cards with hobby projects powered by an AVR, PIC, or MSP430. A lot of the advice seems to be to use MMC or SD memory cards in SPI I/O mode. That seems like a good approach, but (1) sockets for these cards might be hard for a new hobbyist like me to solder, and (2) I already have a bunch of CompactF...

I'm looking for the paper by R. Pinkham titled: "Dual Port Memory With High Speed Serial Access" form the Session on Graphics Display Memory #18, published in the Mini/Micro West in November 1983. Hi, I'm building a very low cost PC Oscilloscope. I have lots of spare PC-100 SDRAM chips and would like to use them instead of buying FIFO. I cannot use the computers memory via PCI because the PCI card cannot guarantee memory access all the time. Therefore I would like to use SDRAM in my circuit board. I understand it's complex to use SDRAMS. I have an idea that could simplify the...
