What are the collective's opinions regarding the use of in-circuit emulators for proving safety critical embedded software? I've heard from some people that they can't imagine how it could be done without whereas others have never used an emulator and consider them entirely unnecessary. Has JTAG rendered emulators obscelete?

I have a situation where after performing a halt and re-going on the ICE I am using, one of the interrupts effectively becomes disabled, ie.. its like it has become masked, however I have checked the interrupt mask afterwards and its still intact.. And its only one interrupt which is being affected. Maybe a hardware issue.. Its an older system so who knows. Any help appreciated. Thanks in ...

Hi, We are going to buy a new environment for a new uC. Actually, we are using a Fujitsu 16 bits (MB90F94x). What do you think of the HCS12X family from Motorola ? Does anyone have some bad (/good) experience with it ? Our dealer suggest us the CodeWarrior IDE from MetroWerks for HCS12 (compiler C, assembler, linker, emulator). What do you think of this one ? Do you know a better one ? ...

Dear all, I used ATMega88 with avrstudio (4.16) and mk2 emulator. I found that the avrstudio displays the flash memory size to be 4k rather than 8k after selecting the device. I now had not enough program size which is more than 4k. Do anyone has the same experience? Or you can try it out by lanuching a project by wizard! Thanks!

Hi all, I'm after a keyboard wedge that is controllable via rs-232 (or usb). Does anyone know of anything that is already available on the market? I need to control a computer from another via its keyboard port. I know it would make a fun project with a HC705 - but I'm trying to avoid picking up the soldering iron. Appologies if this isn't the most appropriate newsgroup - slim ...

Hi, I am going to overclock Atmega16L to 12MHz. I can do that when the JTAG header is attached. However, when it is detached, the program seems to be not working. I have tried to shut down the power of the emulator and it still works when the JTAG header is attached. I do not understand why this strange case happens. Could anyone talk to me why this happens? Greetings all, In trying to assist an associate with problems developing code for an RF comb filter board designed around a Mega16, things are, well, actting really weird, to say the least. This is a fairly small program,...

I have been working on a program which will use a terminal emulator as the user interface. One thing I am finding is that there seem to be different command formats in the different emulators. I tried using the telnet program that came with Windows. Then I tried Putty. The characters sent from keypresses seem to be different for the various function keys. For example, under telnet, the D...
